EF (Education First) is one of the world's largest international education organizations, operating language schools and cultural exchange programs in over 50 countries since 1965. Founded in Sweden by Bertil Hult, EF has grown into a multi-billion dollar enterprise that has helped millions of people learn new languages and experience different cultures around the globe.
Their Chengdu center is part of a network of teaching centers across China offering immersive English education to Chinese students. EF's China operations span over 30 cities, with dedicated teaching centers equipped with modern classrooms, interactive whiteboards, and purpose-built learning environments designed to maximize student engagement and language acquisition.
This is a full-time, in-person ESL teaching position at EF's Chengdu campus, one of the most vibrant and livable cities in western China. You will be teaching students aged 3–18 using EF's proprietary curriculum and teaching methodology, which emphasizes communicative language teaching with a strong focus on speaking and listening skills.
Classes are typically small (8–15 students) and grouped by age and proficiency level. EF provides comprehensive lesson plans, teaching materials, and a structured curriculum so teachers can focus on delivery and student interaction rather than spending hours on lesson preparation. The teaching schedule runs Monday through Friday with some weekend classes, totaling 40 hours per week including preparation and office hours.
Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan province and one of China's most dynamic cities, known for its relaxed pace of life, incredible food scene (including the famous Sichuan hotpot), and as the home of giant pandas. With a population of over 16 million, it offers all the amenities of a modern metropolis while maintaining a more affordable cost of living compared to Beijing or Shanghai.
The city has a growing international community, excellent public transportation including a modern metro system, and serves as a gateway to some of China's most stunning natural landscapes including Jiuzhaigou Valley and Mount Emei. Many teachers find Chengdu to be an ideal base for exploring western China and Southeast Asia during holidays.
